Dr. Elizabeth Elliot-Meisel joined the Department of History in 1993 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2000. She served as department chair from 2001-2010. Dr. Elliot-Meisel moved to Omaha after receiving her Ph.D. from Duke University, where she was on a Ford Foundation scholarship. Prior to that, she received her M.A. in History in 1987 from Georgia State University (while teaching as a secondary education Social Studies teacher), and her B.A. in History from Macalester College, St. Paul, MN (spending a year at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland). Her research focus is U.S.-Canada relations in the Arctic in general and the Northwest Passage in particular.
